The Alameda County Library offers adults the opportunity to earn an accredited high diploma and one of eight career certificates online through the Career Online High School (COHS).
A limited number of scholarships are available to qualified adult learners who are looking to expand their career opportunities, prepare for a better job and continue their education. The scholarships are funded by the Alameda County Library Foundation and the California State Library.
The COHS program is open to eligible Alameda County residents who live within the Alameda County library's service areas, including Ashland, Cherryland, San Lorenzo, Castro Valley, Dublin, Albany, Union City, Newark, and Fremont. Call the County library to find out if you qualify.
Applicants who successfully complete an online self-assessment and a two-week prerequisite course, followed by an in-person interview, will be considered for enrollment and a scholarship.
Once enrolled in the program, Career Online High School pairs each student with an academic coach, who provides the student with an individual career path, offers on-going guidance, evaluate performance and connects the student with the resources needed to master and pass the course requirements. Students will be given up to 18 months to complete the program. Students can transfer previous H.S. credits that will shorten the diploma completion time.
