Alameda County Library

We are in the process of developing a phased approach to reopening that ensures the health and safety of our communities and staff. In doing so, we are following the best available advice from our county, state, and national health officials as well as the American Library Association. We plan to share our reopening plan next month, and our website will be updated with the details of the plan. Read more

We will no longer have cloudLibrary after June 30

Important News About cloudLibrary

As of June 30, we will end our cloudLibrary subscription. Our current cloudLibrary eBook content will be transferred to and made available for check out on OverDrive as of July 1, 2020.

We have several reasons for this decision:

  • Similar content: OverDrive and cloudLibrary offer similar content. We would prefer to consolidate our selected collections at OverDrive and invest in more diverse and unique content from other vendors.
  • Ease of use: We would like to offer members fewer platforms they have to learn to use, and make discovery and reading a more streamlined process.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to transfer holds on cloudLibrary materials. Because of this, we have lowered our hold limit at cloudLibrary to 1 at a time per user. Please do not place holds on cloudLibrary materials going forward.

If you currently have a hold on an item at cloudLibrary, please go to our OverDrive site and place a hold on the item there. If you have any questions or need help with this, contact us through our eResources email form. Please make sure to include your library card number and the title of the book.
