The bookmobile visits preschools and daycares in the Alameda County Library Service Area to provide a storytime experience on the bookmobile. Children get their first experiences visiting the mobile library and selecting books to take back to the classroom for further exploration. We also provide curriculum support. Please apply online to be part of our program. If your application meets our criteria and we have an opening in your geographic area, we will contact you to follow up.
The bookmobile visits elementary schools in the Alameda County Library Service Area during school hours in order to help students develop their library habits and reading skills. Students who participate in the program report having a greater interest in reading and become excited about using the library. If you are an elementary school teacher or principal, please apply online to be part of our program. If your application meets our criteria and we have an opening in your geographic area, we will contact you to follow up.
I have never used the bookmobile before, how is it different from the regular library?
We operate very similarly to a branch library. If you have an Alameda County Library card, that is all you need to check out materials from the bookmobile! If your card is expired or you need a new or replacement card, we can help you on the bookmobile as long as you have a photo ID.
Can bookmobile items be returned at other libraries?
Yes, you can return bookmobile items to any Alameda County Library. If you need to return items from other Alameda County Libraries, we can accept them on the bookmobile.
How long do bookmobile items check out for?
In general, all items checked out from the bookmobile are due back in three weeks. On occasion, if the due date would fall on a holiday or maintenance day, we will adjust the due date to be the next time we are scheduled at that stop.
I placed a hold to be picked up on the bookmobile. How can I pick it up?
If it's your first time placing a hold with bookmobile, we need to know your specific stop. We do not carry all the bookmobile holds on board the vehicle every day. Please give us a call to confirm that we have you down for the correct stop: 510-745-1477. We make every effort to bring your hold twice to your designated stop. If your account says your hold expires before we return to your stop, we most likely still have it waiting for you for our next visit.
I missed my bookmobile stop and I need to return materials, what should I do?
Please give us a call so we can help you out with your account. We can direct you to the closest library branch or next bookmobile stop in your area.
How can I get bookmobile service near me?
Please fill out the request form online so that your neighborhood gets consideration the next time we have an opening in the schedule.
